How you use your arms in the golf swing

Those of us who watch golf on television more often than we do on the golf course would say that the way in which you use your arms in the golf swing depends first of all on whether you are left handed or right handed. The arms are kept straight down at the start of the golf swing. The hands clutch the club and that is where the real part comes in of how professional golfers use their arms in the golf swing as compared to non professional players. The arms are kept straight then bent at the elbows when deciding on the distance of the back swing and then brought straight down again as the club strikes the ball.

The entire swing from start to finish should be quick and efficient with the arms, wrists and elbows working in unison to make the golf swing look simple. The art of doing the entire swing as if effortlessly takes practice and finding guides from professional golfers who can tell how or getting lessons from golf pros at a golf course. Of course, most people practice at home which is really not the place to learn how to use your arms in the golf swing. You might get frustrated which would stop you from playing golf on the golf course. It takes practice to learn to use your arms and keep your upper body out of the field of action while depending on your hips to give you the needed lunge to make contact with the ball significantly meaningful or getting the ball to go where you want it to go.

The most important lesson to learn in using your arms in the golf swing is finding how to hold the club with the right and left hand placed comfortably yet allowing for total control. You don’ t want your arms bent before starting on the back swing which means that you will have to find a position on the club for your left and right arm to be allowed to stay straight. The elbows will be bent deliberately as you calculate how much distance and how much force you will need to use to strike the ball depending on the target. That takes practice and getting advice from golfers who know the game. The hands clutch the club but should not be touching each other. The arms are allowed to swing back almost straight with a slight bend at the elbows at the back swing if the golfer is right handed. The forward swing to the ball should bring the arms back straight again.
